October is the month when autumn has clearly settled in, and the hot, sticky weather of summer is gone. Post-season baseball is in full swing, as is the new football season. Add to that the fact that it's election season. It's time to watch the presidential debates and the analyses of what went on and how to interpret them. So what's one to do, you ask? But of course -- Turn off the TV and go outside.
This is a perfect time of year to increase your outdoor activities. It's this time of year when the air is finally refreshing and exhilarating. While I actually love the heat of summer, the one downside (and this is a biggie for many of you) is that it's so fatiguing to be active when it's hot and humid (the body uses up so much more energy just to keep cool). So, take advantage of the briskness of this refreshing season, and be active. Whether brisk power-walking, rollerblading, bicycling, basketball, or tennis and handball (it's still warm enough), experience the joy of being in motion. Sense how revitalizing it is to be engaged in brisk physical activities in this perfect season for outdoor fun.
Incidentally, if you're feeling blue about the economy, there is no better way to minimize stress while elevating the feel-good hormones and strengthening your immune system. You get all this from a little bit of fun, playing in the cool outdoors. So get off the couch, strap on your roller blades, lace up your running or tennis shoes, and revitalize your body, mind and spirit! Happy Autumn!!!
