Spring's Coming!

As is clearly the case for many parts of our country, winter is still with us, and may still hit with a vengeance (let's hope not). However, the great news - except for skiers and snow-boarders - is that Spring is just around the corner, officially starting on March 20. That's just over 2 weeks from today. For those who have not yet begun to do so, now's the time to get serious with your health and fitness goals. My article, Whip Your Body Into Shape, will help provide some tips on how to jumpstart a fitness routine that will shape your body and increase your energy.

March also happens to be National Nutrition Month. In recognition of that, guest writer, Martha McKittrick returns to help provide some tips on eating healthfully, particularly when on the run. Do any of you ever eat on the run? (Martha is a registered dietitian / certified dietitian-nutritionist and certified diabetes educator; visit her website, http://www.martha-nutritionist.com/).

By adhering to the four cornerstones of fitness (technique, variety, intensity and proper nourishment) you can achieve visible results in 4-6 weeks. To do so, establish a plan of action that includes both exercise and nutrition.

“I am too busy to eat right”. Sound familiar?  Trying to fit in work, family, exercise, friends, etc., can be a daunting task. Unfortunately, our diets often end up taking a back seat. Eating on the run can lead to consuming excessive amounts of sodium, fat and processed foods and inadequate amounts of fruits, vegetables, calcium and fiber. What we eat can have a major effect on our physical and mental health. While a hectic schedule can make eating healthy more difficult, it can be done with a little know how and planning.
